Surrealist artwork is a piece of art that drops into the realm of dreams and the subconscious. They explore things that seem larger than life or fantastic. Many take an existing, normal concept and add to it to create a sense of incongruous juxtaposition. This was spawned from the Surrealism Movement in the 1920s.

Modern Surrealism

The Magician - Ronen Goldman
Ronen Goldman

This photo is from Ronen Goldman, and Israeli photographer. Most of his work follows the realm of dreams, making his work a perfect example of surrealism in the modern era. In this particular picture, a man is making cards float through the air in a forest, which seems like something one might see in a dream.

Anka Zhuravleva - Distorted Reality
Anka Zhuravleva

This photo displays one common surrealist concept of levitation. Obviously, humans can't fly off of the ground. However, many people fly within their dreams at night. By making one of the subjects appear to be floating, the photographer is capturing a place between reality and dream.
