Project 08 - Digital Alternatives Prework
Kallitypes and Vandykes
Kallitypes and Vandykes are created using silver. There are a few differences between the two, but they are mostly the same type of process. Kallitypes use ferric oxalate, allowing for deeper and darker shadows. Both use silver nitrate as a sensitizer for the photo paper. These processes are very close to that of platinum and palladium toning. However, these processes are cheaper, as platinum and palladium are much more expensive.

Cyanotypes
Cyanotypes are very simple and a great starting point for beginners in alternative process. One of the earliest 'recipes' for cyanotypes was created in 1842 by John Herschel. This process is one of the easier processes and doesn't require as much time and money as many of the silver processes. It involves just two chemicals in the whole process. Newer recipes call for just a few more, but still much less than any others that were created in the 1800s.
